Set-up brings the bow into position to draw and aligns the back so the bow can be properly drawn.
First, lift up the bow arm allowing the bow arm to carry the draw hand to between the mouth and eye while maintaining the proper posture. The bow arm should at the same height as the shoulder when the lift is completed. The bow arm should be straight with the bow elbow pointing behind the archer. Try to extend the bow arm even move by making the bow arm triceps hard as a rock.
The draw arm is still bent 90º at the elbow and 90º at the shoulder. It is very important to achieve the proper bow arm and draw arm alignment. The draw hand is even (vertically) with the bow shoulder but pushed out far enough from the body to place your head comfortably between your chest and your forearm.
When set-up is complete, the sight should be somewhere above the target, perhaps in the blue or black; but of course do not aim during the set-up.
Check your body alignment. The bow arm is straight with the tip of the elbow pointing directly behind you. The bow shoulder is down and back. The draw shoulder is down, and even a littler lower than the bow shoulder.
You have a straight line from the draw shoulder to the bow shoulder to the bow hand. With the draw hand away from the body the arrow is pointing behind you, not at the target. (When you draw, load and anchor then the arrow will be pointing at the target.) With this alignment you have a very strong bow arm and shoulder position. With this alignment, you are ready to draw the bow using your back muscles. With this alignment, you do not injure yourself. With this alignment, you are in complete control of your body, the bow and the arrow.
