Intermediate Instructor Course

In response to prior Intermediate Instructor Course attendees, I am changing the Intermediate Instructor Course. Prior attendees commented that they needed more time on the range, hands on instruction on maintaining equipment, and more time to assimulate the information presented. As a result of these requests, I am changing the Intermediate Instructor Course I present. We will be covering all of the basic course material, about 12 hours of classroom work while adding a National Training System Seminar (BEST Method) for 8 hours, and four hours of crafts about arrow and string making. The changes round out the information that a Intermedite Instructor needs to run an effective program.

Our next Intermediate Instructor Course held in our facility will be on Wednesdays March 3, 2010 to April 7, 2010 from from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, April 11, 2010 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (National Training System Seminar), April 18, 2010 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm (Crafts Seminar) and April 21, 2010 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm for the final exams. You must attend all classes, seminars and exams.

All Intermediate Instructor Course Students receive the course books, a notebook, a notepad, two pens, a stretch band, and a finger sling.

The course is 32 hours long

The course is broken into five parts; classroom, shooting training, a crafts seminar, observation of archery classes and exams. There will be home work assignments to help you understand the world of archery, the steps of the basic form, and the basic shooting form details.

The classroom part, the first 12 hours of the class, covers archery range set-up, archery range safety, rules, procedures, commands, the teaching the basic form, proper teaching methods, form error recogniztion and correction. The classroom portions runs from 3/3/2010 to 4/7/2010 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

The National Training System Seminar is on 4/11/2010 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and these 8 hours will used to learn the National Training System (BEST Method). The first 2 hours of the day are spent in the classroom reviewing the techniques to learn the National Training System. The last 6 hours are spent on the range learning the National Training System. Bring a box lunch, your archery equipment, still cameras and video cameras.

The Crafts Seminar is on 4/18/2010 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. These 4 hours will be used to learn how to make and repair arrows, make and repair bow strings and to maintain bows. The Crafts Seminar is a hands on activity where you will make an arrow, repair a center serving and end serving, and learn how to make a string. Bring a notebook, still camera and be ready to get dirty.

I highly recommend that you observe at least two archery classes between 4/2/2010 to 4/18/2010; this will help you understand how to run a class. Ace Archers, Inc. runs archery classes on Fridays from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Saturday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, Saturday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, Sundays from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and a tournament class on Saturday from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. During the observation time you should observe and keep notes; you will not be allowed to teach during this time. You can discuss anything from the observation time with Coach Tom outside of archery class or via email.

The final exams are on 4/21/2010 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The written final exam is a closed book, closed notes exam. The written exam will be corrected after everyone has completed the exam. If you have learning disabilites and need to take a modified written exam, please discuss this with Coach Tom before you register for the class. There will also be a practical exam of the National Training System. You must know the steps in the form and have a working knowledge of the information in each step. You must properly demonstate the NTS and understand angular motion, holding and set-up.

To earn your Intermediate Instructor Certificatiom you must pass the written exam with 75% or better and you must pass the practical exam. Once you pass the exams, you will be certificed as a Intermediate Instructor. You must also be a member of either USA Archery or National Field Archery Association at the time of the exams. The certification comes from the National Alliance for Developing Archery (NADA) and you will receive you certification in the mail.

You are expected to want to teach archery. There is an extrance exam, about 30 minutes long, and you must pass with 70% or better to enter the class. The entrance exam covers the material in the Basic Instructor's Course. If you fail the entrance exam $100 will be refunded.
