Shooting Technique

The Coach KiSik Lee's Archery Form is titled the “BEST” Method and consists of a shot process that must be learned and must flow together. The acronym BEST stands for “Biomechanical Efficient Shooting Technique.” The BEST Method is a shot process that allows the archer to focus on the performance of the shot rather than the outcome. By focusing on the shot process the archer places the arrow in the center of the target rather than somewhere else.

The BEST Method supports three different archery disciplines: Olympic Style Recurve, FITA Compound and Traditional. The BEST Method for Olympic Recure is outlined below, with additional information on other pages.

Breathing During the Shot

Breath control during the BEST Shot Process is what causes the expansion to occur. The breathing pattern is:

  1. Exhale completely before lifting the bow.
  2. Lift the bow and inhale completely.
  3. When the bow is lifted and you are in the set-up position, exhale completely.
  4. Inhale fully during the draw.
  5. Exhale 50% of your air when you anchor.
  6. Hold your breath until you complete the follow through.
